UBP: Office Technology Relocation

UBP Logo UNION BANCAIRE PRIVEE, (UBP) headquartered in Geneva, is one of the major Swiss asset management banks for both private and institutional clients, and a world leader in alternative investment. Strengthened by selective acquisitions and constant, robust growth, the Bank has established an international presence through a network of subsidiaries, branches, and representative offices in over 20 global locations. UBP Japan Securities is the Tokyo arm of the firm having operated in Japan for many years.

UBP solicited the services of a trusted IT partner, Fusion Systems, to plan and implement the safe, problem-free consolidation of the representative office’s data infrastructure and associated trading systems from the Fukoku Seimei Building into an existing UBP office in the nearby Hibiya Sankei Building. As part of the consolidation of two UBP offices the plan included leveraging the existing cabling infrastructure currently in placeand redistribution of computing . Proper testing and user acceptance of data services was required after installation of the new systems to ensure market connectivity and overall quality of service (QoS).

Fusion Systems' infrastructure consultants coordinated with UBP in Geneva to understand current and future technology plans to create a floor space that would support both the initial and planned future systems footprint growth. The project included the installation of a new PBX voice system, upgraded Linux and Windows servers and various market data systems implementations. Extensive attention was given to Japanese compliance issues for the proper separation of services both physical and logical partitions.

The design included all wire ways and fibre, and UTP installations required to provide connectivity to the remaining network infrastructure. Fusion Systems relocated the existing server architecture and deployed a new power distribution infrastructure.

The Fusion Systems planning and deployment services demonstrated its expertise through its meticulous and detailed approach to the planning and sequencing of tasks during the final critical stages of key equipment migration. Coordination of UBP, Fusion and 3rd party vendor resources was required to ensure a successful implementation. Fusion Systems took complete responsibility for the relocation of all technology systems within UBP Japan. The relocation project presented some particularly difficult set-ups and required specialist skills in network security, cabling, server architecture, reverse. engineering and voice/data systems.

Following user acceptance testing (UAT) Fusion Systems, provided UBP Japan Securities with a customized one (1) week cut-over maintenance service agreement to ensure ongoing equipment availability.

The entire project was designed, planned and executed in less than two (2) months. Fusion's consultants were successful in relocating and migrating specific technologies into the new office with no impact to day-to-day services within UBP. The project was delivered on time and on budget.
